„Stitches, cuts, and strokes bear stories of their creators and their co-workers. If their hands get injured, their DNA is literally imprinted on their art. When they create, intergenerational experience is passed on via storytelling and motoric memory of those who taught them the craft.”

The Young and Restful exhibition is the long-term theme of the exhibition dramaturgy of the MeetFactory Gallery called Other Knowledge. It captures artistic tendencies of the generation that renounced the conceptual minimalism, which dominated in the art scene during their studies, and turned their attention to the crafts, which require dexterity, tenacity, and often both physically and psychologically demanding handwork, whose repetitive rhythm brings about the full concentration or flow that is praised by all mindfulness coaches generated by our performance-based society. Combine that with both satisfaction of object creation and haptic material perception and you have a beneficial calming effect unlike when you work only digitally. This is, however, only a theory. Long hours of manual labour may also cause both stress and physical pain. The authors often turned to handwork because they were frustrated with either the oversaturation of both digital and conceptual approaches in the creative arts, the societal marginalization, new living and health conditions, or the pandemic.
