Ruth Orkin’s first solo exhibition in the Czech Republic presents the work of this renowned New York photographer who became known for her portraits of famous Hollywood actors and other important American figures of the 1950s. Orkin’s photography offers a distinctly female perspective; she depicts post-war American society and attitudes to life in a society on the rise, including the emergence of new roles for women beyond those of homemaker and mother. Ruth Orkin is one of the few professional female photographers from the 1940s and 50s who published her work in major newspapers and magazines such as the New York Times, Life and Look. Her photographs also formed part of the legendary 1955 MOMA exhibition The Family of Man. This exhibition is held in conjunction with f3 – freiraum für fotografie.
